no no no calm down it's not ruined. Just fix whatever the leak is and flush it with fresh ATF. No need to be an alarmist.

Previous owner put coolant and metal shavings in my PS and it survived. My new pump is from a Chevy S10, but is nearly identical, and actually takes PS fluid.

I hope so. It it is leaking that it's empty. It might be okay.

There are two notches on the power steering reservoir cap. Keep the level between the two. The easiest way to bleed/flush the system is to loosen the zerk looking fitting on top of the power steering box just a little, not the big nut. While ATF bleeds out, keep filling up the reservoir. Don't let it go low! Bleed it till the fluid looks fresh. The ATF will go everywhere so make sure to put a pan underneath and wipe up the rest.

Okay. I need to order the hoses and replace them all. I hope it just the hose.

If you're sure the hoses are the problem, then yes that should be a big improvement. Make sure to use new hose clamps as well. I ordered my hoses from British Pacific. Cheap and good quality.

...need to remove fan assembly to get to the pump...the rest is straight forward....

I managed to rebuild the entire PS system without removing the fan. It was a little tight but not bad really.
