I had what I at first thought was a PS leak because I kept having red fluid in my driver's front wheel well. Turned out to be a fine pinhole in the cooling line going from tranny to towel bar cooler.

If you allow the bushings to get soaked they will need replacement, steering will be degraded.

My Power Steering has been leaking since I owned mine. I dump a bottle of power steering fluid in every couple months. Doesn't seem to be causing further issues other than the crud coated underneath.

I will be replacing my hoses (pretty sure it's leaking from a hose right near the reservoir). Just so I don't do something stupid, you are talking about putting in Transmission Fluid in the reservoir that I have been filling with power steering fluid right?

I did the same thing with the ps fluid, till I read the book and listen to the guys on the forum. My hoses were leaking also, I tightened all the clamps and added transmission fluid and have not had any leaks since.

I am glad I figured that out before making the mistake of adding PS Fluid. The markings on the cap are a big clue.

I gave the STP PS Stop Leak Fluid to my son for his Ranger.

Does it matter the brand of ATF? Synthetic or not?

So it has been 5 months and no leak. Not sure if it fixed itself or the leak stop worked.

I have had great success with the White Shepherd leak stop in my PS box. However--and I used only the recommended amount--the box will occasionally groan when turning hard left/right at very low speed (e.g. backing in/our of a parking spot while turning the wheel). It never did that before adding the WS.

It does fine otherwise.

I am assuming I'll just need to replace the box at some point in the near future anyway, so I am not too concerned.

I dont know if this has any relevance, but when I first bought my D1, I pulled into my driveway, and had the wheels turned all the way (cant remember wich way, just remember the situation) and when I turned the truck off the steering lock kicked in and when I got out, it was basicly gushing fluid. Got back in, straitened the wheels, and it stopped. Havent had an issue with it since. Where your wheels turned when it was parked? Anybody else experience this?
