Default D1 Value is going up

I’m glad to see examples like this one sell for a decent price. Of course they aren’t D90’s or RRC’s and nobody expects them to be, but they are great vehicles in their own right and I think this proves it.

Very true. That color wouldn’t be my first choice, but clean it was.

Wow, such a clean and gorgeous truck with low miles, you could count the number of oil changes.

D1’s & D2’s will of coarse go up as the supply of decent examples is dwindling daily.

How do people even find examples like that? Do you just stumble upon it hidden in a garage or have an elderly neighbor? Rarities like this never seem to pop up on the forums or craigslist.

Hey there! I’m the buyer of this D1. You probably shouldn’t ascribe too much meaning to the value of our(!) trucks based on the purchase price of this one. I recently moved to the desert, needed (wanted?) an off-roader, and fell in love at first sight with this one.

In any event, I’m grateful for the existence of this forum, and am excited to learn from all of you as this newb embarks on his D1 journey!

Welcome aboard! You came to the right place. Everyone will have differing opinions on how to modify your golden nugget. My advice, which doesn’t count for much lol, would be to go a clean mod that doesn’t require cutting or irreversible damage. Truth is, the D1’s don’t really need a lot to make them very frail worthy. They do well stock with the right tires. Keep us posted and ask questions if you need to. My first D1 had a two inch OME lift with Bilstein shocks and BFG tires. It could go anywhere. I added an ARB and a rack later on as I got more into it. It looked great while keeping good highway manners as it was my daily driver.

The VERY first mod you should do is pull the carpet in the trunk and floor boards and remove the awful foam padding underneath. This padding has been the death of many good Disco's as it soaks up and holds any water leaked in the interior. Both of my D1's have suffered from this to an extent and given the shape of yours it may be possible to save it from future damage.
