Default Dash Cup Holder Jammed "In"

Searched for a while but couldn't locate a similar issue. My in-dash cup holder is jammed in. Can't get it to push in at all to release, have it come out.
Don't want to apply too much force for fear of breaking the dash surround. Removed the clock/coin tray but can't see to locate any way to access the thing.
Anyone with knowledge on how the cup holder can be removed without it being in the "out" position?

The ashtray, cupholder, and clock are all one one piece. Slide out the clock and ashtray and remove the screws behind them, which will release the entire cupholder unit.

There’s a little plastic latch/gear piece that is probably broken (the ashtray uses the same mechanism) but there should be another one you can harvest from the clock side to repair the cupholder.

Awesome, thank you so much for the summary. Was about to go medieval on the thing. Will remove and repair.

Wow this thread makes me feel so guilty. I have the sunglass holder and never use it. If there's an easy way to remove it and replace it with a cover I'd be more than happy to do it for someone.
