Dash Discoloration
I have the same discoloration on the top of my inner door handles but not on my dash. Weird. I've been repainting the whole interior black with the pepboys vinyl trim paint after cleaning everything with Simple Green and then TSP. I always have compressors, saws and other construction equipment in the back and none of it has chipped or scratched the finish in the past month. I really beat the crap out of it too and I'm totally shocked after reading all the horror stories on the web.
I'm interested to see if your experiment works but honestly I would just repaint it and take extra care in the prep work. I cleaned everything twice just to make sure all the years of old cleaners, grease and conditioners were gone and then let the panels sit for a two days to flash properly in open air. A lot easier IMHO.

Well damn it appears this is NOT working. I was really hoping this would be a great fix for everyone's dash since the results for other plastics has been amazing.
Now I just have to decide whether to ignore it, paint it, get a new beige one, or a new black one from a D2.
I don't trust paint to look as natural as the real thing, but maybe I'm wrong. Haven't been able to find any pics of painted dashes.
Also I'm not sure if the D2 dash would fit. Research suggests it would though. I'd only need the top half too as I like the half black/beige look. Like this:

Repainting it would do the trick, it's going to be hard to find an exact match for the tan though. You could just spray it black and that would give you the look you wish to have. Painting it is super easy if you remove it from the vehicle, just make sure you use quality paint or you'll be doing it again in a few months. When I've done interior painting on plastic or that semi-flexible crap GM uses I always add a flex agent to the paint to keep it from cracking but then again I spray it with a gun which most folks avoid. Rattle cans will work though for such small places, Dupont sells interior specific paint that can be put in their form of a rattle can. A good cleaning, a wipe down with denatured alcohol and lastly an application of adhesion promoter would make the Dupont stuff pretty much factory strong and would certainly beat the green thing you have going on now.
If all else fails you could just wrap it in troll hair.
