Here are the findings:
LR Part# PRC8714

LR Part# PRC8714

As a side note I read a couple of people having issues with this module becoming extremely hot to the point it could burn you. A person reported removing it and going with a different setup like this:

You can replace the factory D1 signal sockets with a D90 2-filament socket and you'll have running lights. When you turn on your "parking lights" or "running lights", your city lights + the signals will light up. I did this to my D1 and is a huge appearance-improvement. You'll have to 'mesh' the 2 wiring harnesses together but it will take you literally 6 minutes flat.

It appears some of the later models need the relay combined with the dealers testbook computer to enable this feature in the trucks computer.

D2 is enabled in the BCU by software. Only '99 NAS D2 came with the needed resistor to have them work, it's a silver box bolted to the header behind the drivers side headlamp.

This should be a plug-n-play, all action takes place under the passenger glovebox.
Hopefully this is the info that will allow you to complete the task.

Some Canadians have reported crazy dealer prices and said they got a $35.00 DTRL kit from Canadian Tires.

I found the part on a couple of Landy parts sights and the prices are crazy - $200-300 when every other relay is $5-6

Have no idea why except it being such a unique part

I am told just need to pop it into the correct plug-in under the dash near heater (still no picture or diagram) so not sure the exact slot ?

Next question is - does another Landy or parts mfg have an alternative relay that would do the same thing for $5

I found this LR part - it has an alternate part number - cant imagine there being a different application between 92-95MY and 96-98MY for this relay ?

possibly a Standard brand relay - states fits 94/95 RR and Defenders - I think this is the one - it is 5 pin not 4 pin

Good find!
The price is right, though you may want to reach out to the seller just to make sure.

If it is a 5 pin than you would need to look for a similar 5 pin under the glovebox.

No doubt the stealership would have this module costing such a ridiculous price.

I reached out to the seller and he had no idea if it would work in a 96 D1.

This RY-842 seems to be a 4 pin relay.

I am almost positive a 96-98 is going to need a 5 pin - back to the drawing board
