And I feel like I should add you don't have to use the cabled version, and if you've got the extra $20 and some time to goof around with bluetooth pairing on the PC (not really that big of a deal, but it never seems to work the first time) I'd go with the LX.
https://www.scantool.net/obdlink-lxbt/
Its elm compatible, not that that means much to normal folk, but if you've been meaning to buy a bluetooth adapter so your android phone or tablet can run torque, and your PC also has bluetooth this one works and is the one I used when developing the program. Like I said above you'll have a couple extra steps to pair it to the PC so it recognizes it as a serial port, but its sort of future proof since it can be tweaked to talk to protocols that other OBD2 scanners can't (like GEMS diagnostic mode.) Works on mac too. Heck most of it was written between a mac and linux box, thats why the first version ported to windows so crappily.
Unfortunately they don't make one that works with BLE on IOS, so if you're cheap and don't plan on owning anything Android go with the cable.

Sounds like you are using the old version. I checked the link and for some reason the text is correct, but the URL isn't. I don't know how, I copied and pasted from the browser link, but this board is really screwy. It'd be nice if the bugs were fixed, the mobile app didn't jump to an unrelated thread when replying, and the ****ing ads would stay in static locations (or go away completely) rant off
try this link, copy and paste it. should be 1 file in the zip folder
