Question Dead Disco.... Please Help

I just went up to get some cady for the kids. When I went to start it no go. It turned over, but after it tried to idle it dies. After some more tries it will not turn over any more. There was a mechanic in the parking lot and he took off the air box and sprayed starting fluid in the throttle body and sure enough it started. When he placed the air box back on it dies. Any suggestions would be a big help.

Bad fuel pump or fuel pump relay.

Turn the key on and on the passenger side of the fuel rail is a tire valve looking thing, remove the cap and press the valve with a screw driver.
If fuel squirts you in the face you have good fuel psi, if it dribbles like your grandpa trying to pee then you do not and you need a new fuel pump and filter.

It has been a while since I have changed the fuel filter. I checked for fuel pressure, and nothing. The pump was replaced about 50k ago. I am going to start with the fuel filter. Is there a way to test the pump?

Smile Inertia switch

There's a inertia switch on the left side of the engine compartment mounted on the fire wall try pressing the top of it to reset it.that cuts off the fuel system.

Try that first, then do the fuel filter.
Do you hear the fuel pump come on at all?
Put your ear to the floor in the cargo area and have a friend turn the key on and listen for the pump to kick in.
If it does not kick in then replace the fuel pump relay.

PmnMike,
There is also a slight possibility that your crank sensor is failing, if it were, it could shut off your fuel pump until the sensor cooled off. Check the other stuff first, just don't replace the pump till you also verify the crank sensor, they are a lot cheaper to replace.

Ok so I didn't hear anything when I tried to crank it over. I don't know if I pushed the inertia button, if it is attached to wires with a button on top I pushed it. Also I read on some threads that someone used a Chevy Caprice fuel pump and saved money? If this is true what year Caprice. I un-plugged the hoses from the fuel pump and turned it over and nothing came out.

What yearis your Disco? Different models have different fuel pumps, specifically mid 97 and later have AEL, early 97 and earlier are calledpre-AEL and are cheaper.

Pull the cover from the floor off the cargo area an you will be looking right at the fuel pump. Much easier to troubleshoot it that way. You can check for 12 volts coming to the pump, that will tell you a lot.
