BTW, did you also have the swivel seal removed?

No, that's an axle seal and will have no affect on the resistance to turning.
The seal for the swivel ball, FTC3401

I'm sorry I'm a little confused. Are you asking me if I removed FTC3401 or the person who started the thread? I removed and replaced that seal when I did my swivel *****. I'm correctly waiting for FTC 3276 to ship so I can reinstall them. I had a spare new one but I lost it unfortunately.

I was asking you. I don't think the OP has done his yet, or maybe I missed it.
I wasn't clear if you just removed shims, or did a rebuild. A lot of times people remove shims and check resistance to turning but neglect to have the swivel ball seal removed when checking the resistance.

I completely tore it down to the axle. It was not fun, mainly because it was cold.

Just got back from the junkyard where I scored a great looking caliper, almost new TRE's and four bilstien shocks (and a fender for my wife's car) for $70.

So I'll try the TRE's first, and hopefully that'll solve my problem. If it comes down to doing the swivel *****, What kind of time budget are we looking at? I've rebuilt rear hubs before, but the fronts intimidate me...

Couple of hours the first side because you have never done it before and in between working and staring at the RAVE it's a little time consuming. I might do a write up soon. Once my seal gets here.

Ever get around to that writeup?

I bit the bullet and bought brand new TRE's. Replaced them and the death wobble seems to rear its ugly head less often and is easier to kill than before, but it's still not GONE. Seems to be caused by potholes. Speeding or slowing has no noticeable effect. The best way to lessen it's affect is to sharply steer into the wobble (I guess that takes up the slack in the steering?).

Thoughts on the next steps? I'm supposed to go to Canada tomorrow in this beast!
