Default Diesel Engine???

Ok. So I really want to put a diesel engine in my 99 Disco 1. Is this possible? I mean in theory I could run it to like 500,000 miles right?

My truck has 111k right now. Heads have been done. But I want to have it forever muahahahaha. Any input? Or am I just an idiot? I mean at some point the engines gonna go right? Life span is like 200k max tranny/engine on these correct? Anyone seen one of these get to 300k?

Thanks guys!

For what it would cost, buy 2 more disco's for the same price, and put them in storage 'til you'rs dies.

I haven't seen 300k, but many past 200k.

Why do you want a diesel? That's the biggest decision point. That will tell you if you should do it or not.
If you do all the work yourself, you can do it for less than $10k
Do you live in an area that does emissions testing, or soon will be. That's an added expense getting it to fool the OBD2 testing.
Do you want a manual or automatic.

My D90 conversion is because
  • I wanted better mileage, 75-100% better than the V8
  • At the time it would have been a net gain in 3 years, now that I work from home, it's going to be a long time
  • I wanted to get rid of all of the electronics/ECU's
  • I like diesels better than petrol engines
  • It was already a 5-speed, so easier to convert
  • 95's are OBD1 so no emissions testing concerns since diesels are exempt where I live

Here is everything you need to know about diesel conversions. Do you have 10K to put into the truck? If the answer is yes, then it can be done. Go for it. If the answer is no, then give it up and realize it is a pipe dream like the rest of us.
