So if any teeth are "broken, pitted, or pitting" I need a new differential?
If any parts are "jumping" it means my bearing is bad?

Yeah if it's "just" bearings it could save you a lot of $. Plus if yours is bad you have some experience as to what you are looking for when crawling around at a junk yard and what tools to bring.

It's going to be difficult to tell the condition of the bearings without taking the diff apart and removing them so you can see them.
If you remove the diff and look at all the teeth on the ring gear and on the pinion and they look ok, then it just needs bearings.
But before you do that I'd make some phone calls and see if you can find a local shop that can install them and set up the diff for you.
Bill at Great Basin Rovers (GBR) can do it, but you'd incur shipping costs.
The bearing preload shims in it are the same as a Dana 60 diff.
Pinion height are unique, but GBR has them.

Oh I know, but I don't see any harm done in starting another thread. Just my little sense of humor
