Default Difflock remedy for lazy people.

If I've said it once,,,,,,,,,,,

I'm lazy

Two years ago, I disassembled my console, freed my linkage, reassembled and hi/lo worked great while the lock/unlock linkage was like butter, the CDL never engaged.

I knew it was spring loaded to drive the fork, so I threw it in lock once in a while.

Several months ago, someone wrote here (I'm not looking it up, I'm lazy, but you're a genius) to put it in lock and forget about it.

I did, and several days ago, low and behold, 95deg, I'm stuck in traffic (rare), my lock light came on and scared the crap out of me (ABS is the only light I'm comfortable looking at)

I was 2blocks from several turns and flipped it to unlock - it won't got off - I passed my turns and started flipping it every two seconds or so.

It grudgingly started to cooperate

I've been doing this for two days (80-90 in xfer case) and it works great.

I jacked up one front wheel with trans in neutral to confirm (can't spin wheel in lock)

There, I did it.

luck,greg

I will warn that driving on dry pavement with it locked will jack up your driveline fast. It is the easiest way to blow a diff....

Also, if that thing decides to engage any speed over 5 mph, you will be looking for a new transfer case.

not true the rover owners manual says you can engage the diff lock at any speed as long as no wheels are slipping

show me. I have not read anything like that, and there is a sticker on the dash that states 0 to 5mph.

Selecting diff lock
The diff lock can be engaged or disengaged
either with the vehicle stationary, or when
driving at any road speed, and without
depressing the clutch. However, with the
vehicle in motion it is ESSENTIAL to be
travelling on firm ground, in a straight line,
and without wheel slip.
here ya go

Hmmm....I see the statement from the manual, I have seen the sticker on the center console. Looks like we have a contradiction. Surely this is the first thing LR has messed up . LOL.

I ahve locked my t-case into hi while driving at 30 mph or so and have driven in a blizzard for 180 miles with it locked in hi at speeds upto 60 mph.
My t-case is still working fine.

You cannot drive with it locked on dry roads, you will bind up the t-case if you try and turn.

The sticker on the dash is for shifting from high to low range- that can be done at speeds up to 5 MPH, or stationary. Your transfer case will make unpleasant sounds if you try this at higher speeds.

Locking the center differential and be done at any speed (within reason...I wouldn't advise locking it while doing 95 MPH) as long as you are driving in a straight line with no wheel slip.

This is what I was about to say.

Spike, Lord, and Spence may have been the only ones who actually read my post

thank you

As I said, hi/lo (0-5mph)has worked great, the CDL linkage (all of it external) worked beautiful, but the shifter fork wouldn't move inside the xfer case (no lock & no light)

I left it in lock for over a month (actually forgot) it went in.

It was sluggish at first, but after a week, it works fine.

I use it about every mile or so now (driving straight as I can)

luck,greg
