Default disco threw a code, figures!

so yesterday I got a call with great news and I was in a really good mood, well my rover couldn't let that happen so she threw a code shortly after my phone call.

anyways I got the code read and it came back as a P0441 evap system incorrect purge flow, which I have done my research and my understanding is it can be anything from a loose gas cap to a bad purge valve. everything under the hood visually looks good however I did notice the fuel filler hose had some pretty good cracks in it so I figured I would wrap some duct tape around it to see if it turns off the light (it may be a long shot but it is worth the 10 minutes). Before everyone jumps on my TEMPORARY duct tape fix, please understand I am only doing this to determine if this is the problem and I will replace the hose regardless. I plan to test the purge valve this weekend anyways to rule that out as well. so with that aside if it is my purge valve where can I find a replacement? I see AB wants a bit over $300 for the canister and purge valve (yah that's not going to happen) but does anyone sell just the purge valve or is there an equivalent from another vehicle that can be retrofit? I would imagine they all work the same way

also what is the possibility that my recent (very slightly) lowered fuel economy and (again very slight) loss of power, could be due to this problem?

MPG and power wont have anything to do with a EVAP leak.
Unless your gas cap is off completely and all of your fuel is evaporating then your MPG will be less.
Other than that I have no idea.

so today the CEL went off, was off for a few miles then back on again. not sure if that helps to define the problem or not.

I'm not worried, it is stupid evap stuff that shouldn't cause any harm, and next weekend I will test the purge valve and if it is not working I will get a used one from a chevy or something for a couple bucks and retrofit it on!

I just hate having that stupid light on.
