Default Discovery 1 in the Solomon Islands.

Got suggested to make an intro post as I'm starting to fix up a disco 1 in the Solomons. It's my in-laws that was running fine about 5 years ago but since has been sitting under a mango tree. It has a lot of cosmetic damage to fix and get up to speed. The bones don't seem too bad to me and it looks like it just needs a bit of love to get it back to the car it was. There are 3 points of rust and one quite bad at the bottom of the windshield (LHS). I have a 3d printer here which I am keen to use for some parts here and there when appropriate and recently tested using that for the light brackets.

I don't have a huge amount of experience with restoration but have been fixing up a series 1 with my brothers back in NZ. Cool to be a part of this and thanks for all the support already you guys definitely know your stuff!

I’m pretty sure your bottom plastic bits are the trimmer sockets for attaching your headlight. Don’t bother 3D printing these as they’re easily available and cheap.

i wonder what shipping from the UK to the Solomon Islands would be? might be cheaper and considerably faster to print the parts.

Shipping or mailing small parts to Canada is relatively cheap. A number of the suppliers will pop them in the regular mail (Royal Mail).

Your rig almost looks as rough as mine! No worries, the uglier they are, the better they run....

Do you have a punch list of things to do to it? If cruise control from your other thread is near the top, you're in great shape. The backing plate for your front wheel looks a bit gnarly--are the brakes functional? Regarding the rust, not sure how to work with it or how important it is in the big picture. I have a relatively rust-free truck in California and I have similar rust in the alpine windows (the upper ones in the back) as well. I've seen videos for how to remove, repair and replace, but I'm not finding it worth the effort and relatively low cost yet.

I love the innovation of the 3D printing. Did you find a file for that on the web or create it from scratch? I have no idea how those things work...

As long as you have a place to work on it, and aren't rushed, it can all be fixed. Even rotten frames, as I discovered. Good luck with the Disco!

Cheers

I would kill for these seats. My front passenger seat has a stuck gear and won't recline, and my rear passenger seats are ripped. Local junkyards have not yielded what I need.
