Default Discovery I & II Tuning

Hello all,

I'm a fairly new land rover enthusiast so I've got a lot of questions. I've decided to buy an older model discovery instead of one of the newer lr3 or lr4's for several reasons, mainly price and the fact that the newer discoveries are being fitted with v6's instead of v8's. I know that land rovers have never been notoriously quick, but one question I had for some of you more experienced forum members was is there a way to 'tune' the old v8's to increase speed and performance (possibly even mpg), and if so what kind of cost would I be looking at?

can get Expensive. not a lot of room on the bosch management, compared to earlier systems, for improvement. everything else is pretty standard.....open heads, reduce friction, let it breath, etc.

$1200 for a book to tell you how best to spend your money, start by not paying $1200 for the book. Thats 3/4 the price of a top hatted block

Sir, the LR3 and LR4 also run V8s. V6 was just an option.

The D2, and D1 particulary, are much better off-road than on-road, so making them faster is somewhat pointless.

There are chips, superchargers, displacement increases, cams, and head mods, but they're all expensive for little gain. If you want road-going power, get a V8 LR3.

Get a 94/95 D1 and drop a LS motor into it.

Oh, and every sticker adds like 1/2 a horsepower.

interesting, so are the v6 lr4's only mandatory in the UK because of their different eco emission laws? I did originally want either an lr3 or an lr4 but chose to go with an older model discovery because of the bulky design of the newer models and the fact that doing a restoration brings more intrinsic value for me personally. I just love the look of the DI's and DII's.

Also, has anyone who's owned a DI or DII ever had any issues with the air conditioning? And what is everyone's opinion of the 'Cannibal' V8 engines? I've heard good and bad
