Default Door Chime - On All The Time

Good Evening -

Being a new owner of a 94 Disco V8i - and my first Euro-Vehicle - I realize I may be asking a totally newbish question - Being that it's a 94 the owners manual is no where to be found, and the online versions don't mention the door chime -

Everytime I open the driver door there is a door chime - It only chimes when the door is open - No keys in the Ignition, no headlights on - which is what I am used to hearing from my GM/Ford products - If the headlights are on, it warns me, if I leave the keys in the ignition, it warns me. Maybe I am just not used to being warned about the fact that I am leaving the vehicle. Or maybe she (it) is going to miss me and is telling me so, or maybe she is happy to see me and telling me so. Either way, I want to make sure the door open chime is supposed to be happening.

Is this normal?

In Peace and Agape,
Trav...

Not normal. Maybe something is wrong with your ignition switch?

Man I hate electrical problems. lol

I am thinking your ignition switch thinks your keys are still in the ignition.
You can try lubing the ignition with silicone spray and then working it a few times with the key.

my 96 had the same sort of problem but it only chimed some of the time with the key out and the key would get stuck in some of the time. a couple of shots of pb blaster and both problems solved

In peace and agape.

hmmmm. I replaced my ignition/steering lock with a part from Will Tillery. Before, I had not chime. Now I have a chime (really a constant beep). Also have a dome light that blinks until I start the engine. So the iginition is the problem, I'm just not sure a lube will do the trick because before I put the replacement in, I lubed that thing up quite well.

If you get to the bottom of the problem, please do report back, I'd appreciate the help.

I get neither, and prefer it that way.

I agree with Chris-bob. My disco has a door chime about 1.5% of the time that the key is in the ignition. I prefer it when it isnt dinging 98.5% of the time.
