Default Driveline Whine Help

Just got a 94 Disco and there is a whine when I'm on the throttle, accelerating or just keeping speed. It sounds a lot like a rear end whine I had in a CTS-V. But this is coming from the front, middle of the vehicle. Any ideas?

I would check/change the transfer case fluid 1st. Probabaly low and/or old fluid.

So, what have you checked so far, since it is your vehicle????????????????????
as a 17 year old truck, it is very possible you have some bearing wear, how often do you change the fluid in the diffs and t/case?
If you have allowed something to run low, just changing the fluid probably won't help, but you can try before throwing parts at it. Try using 75W/140 gear oil when changing, it will help a little with older trucks.

Maybe you missed the part where I said "Just got a 94 Disco" I literally have had the truck less then 24hrs, its hardly mine.

Any idea on what bearings to check first? Is there a common bearing that seems to wear before others? And I haven't let anything run low since I just got the truck..... Also not trying to throw parts at anything, how did you figure that one??

Thanks will do. Should I be putting the 75W/140 gear oil in the diffs and t-case? Or were you just referring the the t-case?

The workshop manual Rave is in my signature. It will have the procedures in it,

The output shaft bearings are the most common to go, but these are gear cases and they tend to whine anyway. Swap out your fluids first to the 140 and see how it sounds. It takes a little over 2 quarts each and you will need a pump to fill the transfer case.

Thanks for all the help! I already download the RAVE, thanks for the link. I'm picking up the fluids today. I'll let you guys know the outcome.

Thanks again!

Update: I changed t-case, both diffs, trans, engine oil. Still get the noise. Any recommendations on where to look next? The other thing I noticed is when I have the whine under throttle the CDL shifter vibrators with the whine, when the whine stops the vibrating stops. Not sure if that means anything or now.

Any tips on what to try next?

I would start looking at the output shafts for play in the bearings of the transfer case.
