electric fans on 97 disco
I just thought I would mention how easy it is to install the front electric fans from any 124 mercedes benz 89-94 , I removed the clutch fan from my truck a while back ,the only time it would heat up is in the woods off road. So yesterday I took the mercedes fans which are twinned and with some minor adaptation put it in hook it up in less than 1 hour . they work great the only thing that would make it better would for it to be on a heater control so you can vary the speed. I know I will not be able to tread into deep water but it is really not my thing . I will try to post a picture of the completed job .

if you have a cutoff for the fans you can wade with them that way, just to make sure they dont come on in the water.
any idea of the cfm of the mercedes fan, or for that matter the cfm of the rover fan?
ive been considering this as well but cant seem to find a cfm rating on the rover fan....

If you can work out the square footage of the radiator, my fan does like 800 feet per minute at idle, on an anemometer HVAC gauge. The Mercedes fans are kinda deep. Just replaced the pair on my 93 300TE. While the fans may work in your area, further south might be a problem. Some one just posted about a fan conversion, they removed it after temps got above 95 and it would not keep up.
As for it doesn't overheat, that should be tempered with what you are using to determine overheat. If gauge, it is pretty broad and not accurate. For best testing, use an OBDII scanner or ultra gauge.

I'd like to mention that the Mercedes cooling fan motors are pretty much like the D1 electric fans, meant for supplemental use. My Merc has a thermostat that turns them on when it gets too warm for the main fan to handle. It is a 3.2 liter DOHC with aluminum head. Would not say that they by themselves are enough to replace the mechanical fan. If they were, why would they have a mechanical fan to start with? BTW Mercs of the W124 style are famous for HG leaks also.
There is no magic to an electric fan cooling something, happens second of the day somewhere. The trick is having a large enough one to do the job.
