Default Electrical riddle

This seems like something that only could happen in a rover...

So the annoying continuous beep that happens when the transfer case is in neutral.... My truck is making this noise now only when the TRANSMISSION is in neutral (transfer case in H) and occassioanlly in park but will go away by jiggling the shifter. The weird part: it stops when the driver's door is opened. And restarts when its closed. Also my transfer case will not go out of high (into N or L) and it had been working fine within the last few weeks. Makes me think the solenoid is not getting energized. Sounds like a short.

This problem recently arose so I assume I did something with one of my other jobs. Recent jobs done:
- Fuel pump replaced
- Had ignition cover and lower panel off trying to fix a key that wouldn't turn (success)
- Had passenger panel off to put in D2 cruise control module.

Things I have done:
- Read the RAVE and electrical troubleshoot manual which didn't help me but the electrical book is a bit over my head
- Checked under the dash for loose connections.

I also confirmed that when I unplug one of the connectors under the steering column the buzz goes away but so does the transmission safety thing (i.e. I can switch out of park without holding brake etc).

Well figured this out. Kinda.

The two purple wires that go to the light for the key socket to light up were disconnected as I broke the socket. Assumed this was just a light so wasn't worried but when they are connected together the beeping stopped and I was able to shift the transfer case.

Fixed.. Right? Wrong...

Now with these connected, the shift solenoid works BUT the light that goes on when the door is open flashes on and off instead of its usual gradual dim up behaviour. It does this regardless of gear when the door is opened and for all doors but when its in neutral and a door is open there is a frequent click under the passenger dash. Traced this through and it was two of the yellow relays....

Any ideas....

Sorted. Shorting the light for the ignition key fixed the neutral safety issue but blew the MFU fuse (fuse 12). Replaced short with bulb, replaced fuse and all good!
