Emission Testing??Considering buying 95 Discovery.
We are thinking about buying a 95 Discovery with 191,000 miles on it. We are looking for a Vehicle to take camping, throw the dogs in, hunting, and on the White Rim trail in Moab in April. We don't anticipate to do any hard core off roading...but the off road capabilities are appealing.
We are new to Rovers, and to be honest scared by what we read...but at the same time, what to you expect from a 15 year + old car.... this will not be driven on a daily basis.
The Discovery we are interested in is located outside the area that requires emission testing...should we anticipate that passing emissions will be a problem. (we are in Denver, CO
Thanks...learning a lot form this forum.

I live on CO as well. I have a 95 Disco and even in rough shape it passed emissions. I suggest thorough maintenance and a good tune up. Mine has treated me very well. Have been on several offroad trips and recently bought a popup camper. She passed emissions the first time. Great vehicle. Mine has 183,000, bought her with 167,000 2 years ago.

generally speaking older vehicles (pre 96) are tested via tailpipe test so there is no cut and dry way of knowing if a vehicle will pass (post 96 is a different story) I was an emissions tester in Ohio for a couple of years and about 90% of the time I could tell if a car was going to fail or pass before I tested it based on the running condition of the car. this isn't always accurate but I have found if the car runs good and has a catalytic converter in decent condition, it will usually pass. This isn't always the situation but like I said I would put it around the 90% mark. also keep in mind that the requirements get lower the older the vehicle is so the requirements on that truck will be based on the amount of wear and tear the vehicle has acquired over the years.
