Default Engine Issues? :)

Well tranny is done-ish .. but I have the truck running again so i figured i'd start lookin into the engine issues.

Here's video of the engine running, you can clearly hear the ticking, this happens at all RPM (though fast/slower with engine rpm obviously)

Alongside this I got the following OBD codes

P1177 - Maximum Negative FMFR Correction Fault
P0308 - Cyl #8 Missfire detected
P1316 - Misfire Excessive Emissions Fault

Trying to use automotive stethoscope finding it hard to tell which side the ticking is coming from, I would assume its something to do w/ cyl #8 but from the sound its not apparent.

Before putting the truck up for the tranny swap I got the 0308 intermittently, not 100% of the time.

Really? You just swapped a transmission and your asking how to check a misfire in one cylinder? I'm taking away your pen, your back to crayons.....

Lol, the miss-fire was intermittant before... mainly curious bout the sound.

and regardless of my experience, I can do the work, just need guidance from those more experienced, and instead of digging around figured I'd see what people here thought of the noise.

If you have anything constructive to say, by all means

It is past your bed time. So it should be dark outside, and you can run truck in darkness and eyeball any little sparks etc. Can swap plug wire. Try a different stethoscope or yard stick or metal pipe or rubber hose for the listening test.

But I can't my computer to play your movie, so all of that is a swag on my part (scientific wild a** guess).

Normally ihscouts puts weight in his analysis. His two cents are worth $350 often. I listen to him.

Lol fair enough, i'll take a look for stray spark the video is on youtube I can try and re-post the link ...

As for the rest, I took advice given to me here previously and got new champion coppers, and 8mm magnecore's for the truck to see if it would help some of the symptoms.. So far thats a no.

EDIT:
No sparks flying.... nice and dark under the hood I'll try swappin wires for fun later i guess the Cyl8 missfire happened with the old (pre-magnacore) wires as well, so its definately somethin with that cyl
I have plans to pull the covers and check for anything loose, my fear is its the exhaust valve sticking on #8.. Waitin on the gaskets before i do that tho.

If the fault is intermittent.......

How's about an injector eh? Swap it with a neighboring and see if the ECU can find it again.

If it follows then you have your answer and target in hand.

Same goes for wire/plug issues.

As for a sticking valve.....ah that requires a different routine. A compression test.

....and I was being constructive. Unemployment effects one's psyche. I kicked you in the nut sack to wake up your inner initiative......

Lol Thanks...

I'll try the injector swap trick and see what happens.

Went out this AM and the thing cranked and wouldn't start.... usually if I give it some time and go back it will start .... Wondering if that is related to the 1177 reading history on this code tends to refer to fuel pressure issue, either vacuum leak, maf dirty or fuel pump ... hoping its not the latter

once I get it started again ill look into other things, need to get some o-rings before the injector swap.

The tick sounds like a stuck lifter.
Man I feel for you, seems like one thing after another.

Lol yeah ... what should I expect from a 700$ truck?

if it is in fact a lifter, could I do work on them w/o rebuilding the heads by chance?

One thing's for sure by the time this thing is runnin 100% it'll be mostly new lol
