Exclamation Fan clutch robbing power when on.

Hello fellow rovers.

I recently replaced my vis fan clutch OEM during my cooling overhaul. My old one turned firmly (peanut butter) but had forward and reverse play. When the new fan kicks on the motor gets a bit louder which I know is normal but it really takes a lot of her power away until its done cooling and winds back off. the fan never stays on long since the system never breaks 179-206f in 100+f heat with a/c on/traffic/hills/ect. And its not like she had lots of power to begin with. It makes shifting out of 2nd and 3rd a task when the fan is on. My cooling system is new as can be minus HGs which were done 40+-K ago. New nissen rad, AB hose set, 180 tstat, new pancake motors on condenser, new expansion tank cap, and peak global.
Is this a bad clutch, bad water pump, ignition issue? I do have to admit that im using 7mm autozone crap wires and ngk plugs (replace 10K ago).... let the reaming begin.....

I think the clutch is bad but since my old clutch was bad too, maybe I don't know what normal is. The clutch is under warranty so It couldn't hurt if it is bad and was swapped.

thanks lots
brian

There are a couple of styles of clutch. When "off line" they are coupled at about 20% power. When fully engaged, they can couple at 60-70% standard and 80-90% for heavy duty. But you went oem, so I guess standard for you. While it could be a bad clutch; if it was staying enaged longer you would hear the fan roar. The old water pump won't like dancing with the new girl.

Would wonder if dirty MAF contributes to this sluggish feeling.
