flushing heater core
97 d1,108k,ome springs and shocks, bilstein steering damper, hella's and yakima racks,ok so after cleaning out cooling system and new t-stat [190 oe],i kept hearing the gurgling water sounds so after reading these posts i figured i'd try to reverse flush core, disconnected heater hoses on top of valve cover and used the hoses to flush garden hose each way,not alot of crap in there but added some clr and let it cook for 20,re-attached hoses [put coolant thru hoses first] and started her with exp cap off, thought i did it right but i still hear water only now it's coming from the core as opposed to the lower passenger footwell? tried driving on highway at 60mph for awhile but still does it [although gauge shows car is running 206 on hgwy and 210 to 215 in stop an go with 90 degree temps.so do i need to try burping her from the radiator? [it does run cooler!] kept flushing water thru til it was clean as can be,and the flow seemed pretty good, appreciate any imput from those that have been here!

Ill start by saying Ive been lucky and have not had issue when refilling my rad.
this is how I do mine:
fill thru the little hole in the top of the rad tank, have reservoir cap removed, squeeze and push down on upper rad hose when you getting to the top. Then fill reservoir to midway.
it take a while b/c the hole and funnel are so small when filling thru the rad tank - but i think that is why i havent had issue.

just went out and filled rad from rad cap with exp cap open, with rad full the exp tank level went 3/4 of way up,not sure that's gonna work but thanks for the help, drove for a short ride and still heard gurgle so parked it nose up until tomorrow and see if coolant settles back to core,if not guess i'll pump exp tank down to proper level

took car out for a drive, got stuck in some stop and go [alot of stop!] temp got as high as 221 degrees with ambient temp of 90,sloshing started when i first started driving and got less, went on hgwy at 50mph and temp came down to 212 so i guess that's normal for a 190 degree t-stat,exp tank level went down to correct level and don't see any coolant leaking,i guess that's the best i can do and if it does it a little it's still better than it was when i started!

thanks W. after flushing i did start to get the tell tail sign of idle up and down [50rpms] which indicates air,i'll try to do it again, after watching a video i do see the correct way,by putting a funnel on rad and filling leaving coolant in funnel above rad then start car and let it get to temp, bubbles [or air should exit],if not there may be an obstruction that won't come out in which case you got to live with it or change core.for me this was all to try and make truck run cooler, when driving in normal conditions it runs around 201 to 205,but once it gets hot it runs around 212-215,i guess if it stays below 230 that's the correct operating temp [with 190 oe t-stat] after all these pups are used to desert [camel trophy] temps

oh well, after driving this am it still does it so pretty much at standstill. well i tried one more time to bleed system and while it is better there's still sounds of water, so guess i'm living with it! the good news was after a short hgwy drive at 50mph by the time i got home temp was 201 so if it helped i'm happy! what i think i'll try is to let it idle with funnel and coolant for a longer period of time, appreciate any imput from those who've succeeded in fixing this

here's my last attempt, when car is cold i'll switch heater hoses on top of valve cover then start it and let it get warm with heater vents set to hot and fan off,i won't drive it like that but after warm maybe it'll do the trick, after it cools down i'll reset hoses.let me know if anyone has had success doing this, thanks in advance, just out of curiosity would it hurt car to drive it like that?
