Default found this in my fuel pump

1997 D1 w/AEL - Found this in the swirl pot of my fuel pump. Pump was working fine. I'd been getting a P0451-Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor Signal Error Fault.
I swapped for a new pump but found this inside my old pump.
Any ideas?
TIA

I think the locking ring is red plastic so perhaps bits from that

Mine has a metal ring. Thanks for the reply though.

Just a guess, but could be a small washer-type seal for the old pressure sensor. Otherwise, came in through the filler tube.

JohnZo thanks for your reply.
That’s what I was thinking too.
Was hoping someone could tell for certain.
I pieced it back together as best I could. Not even sure if it’s correct.
It does look like a one-way check valve/flap.
