Default fuel filter

Any major preferences for fuel filters, or any to stay away from specifically?

I use a generic NAPA one that has a barb on each end. Much easier to change.

Walmart! Must be the FRAM brand right?

I've only used Mann filters 3x. Never had any issues for the past 10+ years...

Im pretty sure that:

MPI = Diesel

MFI = pre-GEMS/non-AEL

SFI = GEMS/AEL

Start with a cool engine. Stick a rag over the schrader looking valve on the fuel rail and depress the pin in the center of it. The fuel will squirt out into the rag and depressurize the system. Those pliers that pinch off the fuel line are handy too.

It was to pull the fuel pump relay. Passage side. But I don't see blue base.

The MPI is the 4-cylinder petrol engine that was a option for these trucks.
Over head cam, multi port injection.

No need to release fuel pressure, just unscrew the fuel filter, it will depressurize when you do, you will get a dribble of fuel, you will loose about 1 cup worth of fuel.
You can start the engine and remove the fuel pump relay, once the engine stalls you will be fine.

Forget the repair manual on things like this, its just common sense.
