Fuel Pump
Lost power and towed to a shop. They are quoting around $1100 to replace the fuel pump. Checking online there are ones that are around $200 - new. Not wanting to name brands, is there any quality issues to be worried about? I just bought my 1998 and want to get started on the right foot...

Look at the Rover's North Website. They have the best prices on new fuel pump assemblies that I was able to find. My early 97 is the Pre-AEL version and was 100 bucks new for their ProLine.
Also make sure the problem is not merely the fuel pump cut off switch under the hood on the firewall. Reset that switch by pushing down the top of it and see if that matters. Also go ahead and pull the fuel pump cover in the rear cargo floor and visually examine the pump. Check for power at the connector with a meter.
Mine had extreme corrosion present that required complete replacement of fuel lines from pump to engine compartment and fuel pump assembly replacement due to cracks in the plastic top plate.
For $1100 I would drive down there and replace it for you.
Also if the top and such are in good shape, you may get by with just replacing the pump itself. You will save a lot of money doing these basic repairs yourself. The price they quoted you is like robbery in my opinion. Replacing the fuel pump assembly is very very simple..

Yeah, this too.
If the $1100 is just to do the fuel pump, you are getting ripped off epically.
Procedure is almost literally:
1. pull up carpet in cargo area and remove cover to pump
2. unscrew retaining ring, unplug electrical connections and pull old pump out.
3. put old pump in, re-connect all wires, screw on retaining ring
4. cover everything that was uncovered in step 1
the only humbug is cleaning up spilled gasoline.
