Default Fuel pump and injection relays not switching

Hi, I have just aquired a 1995 Discovery 1 3.9l V8i.

I was helping tow a friends caravan when the engine cut out and would not re-start no matter what we tried. Since getting the vehicle home (the shame of being towed by a Sangyong) I checked all the usuals, fuel pipes, filters spark, etc... The vehicle will turnover for a second when left to stand for a while. This suggested a fuel issue. I checked the relays to find both the fuel pump and fuel injection relay did not click/switch in when the ignition was turned on. I checked all the fuses and have started checking the earths, I have also borrowed a different ECU with no result. Is there something I am missing? I have power coming in to the relays but seem to have +v on both of the switching terminals 86 and 87.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Ok, So I have reset the inertia switch. Unfortunately this has not helped. Am I correct in saying that the inertia switch is after the Fuel Pump relay? Is the ECU meant to ground the fuel pump relay switch? If so why am I getting a 12v reading on that wire? Can I bridge the fuel pump relay and the fuel injection relay just to start the vehicle as it has been sitting for some tim eand I would like to turn it over!!

Thanks

You say the vehicle will turn over only after sitting for a while...Do you mean start for a little bit, or turn over but not start? And when it doesn't 'turn over', what does it do? Just sit there and nothing...or what?

Yeah you can jump them to see if thats your problem. I wouldnt recomend leaving them that way but itll work in a pinch.

The vehicle will run for a little bit then die (approx 1 sec). When it does not run, the starter motor merely cranks the engine. I note that there is no fuel coming out of the schraeder valve thus I know that the fuel pump is not ciming on, I have also had some one stand at the rear of the tank t check if it does, and no go.

I have checked both relays and they are good, yet they are not clicking in. I have 12v supply to both relays, but the earth from the ecu seems is not -ve it is +12v.

Thanks for the help

The ECM should provide the ground for both relays. I do not know which pins at the harness, since I seem to see no wiring diagram in the RAVE.

Where do I find the crankshaft sensor and could this create the problem?
