Default Full width axles

Has anyone on here seen or have any experience or have any pics with full width axles on a Disco? A buddy of mine offered up a Dana 60 front and 14 bolt rear and the fabrication work to put them under the Disco with a johnny jointed triangulated 4 link front and rear for a price that is less than the axles usually go for. What options are there out there for a 5" coil besides the RTEs?

Make sure you budget in a custom made driveshafts too

Ok first question is how much is he going to charge?

Second question - what are you trying to accomplish here?

It will be quiet a bit of work to get them in fab wise - to do it right.. And if your truck ends up looking like his does now it will handle completely different on the road.

Triangulated 4 links are unheard of on the front a disco mostly because there is no room for it. 3-links like the one on my truck are more common, Some guys have gone real crazy designing custom stuff. www.pirate4x4.com search land rover section.

Like I suggested in the other thread keep the stock rear 3 link set up and change the arms to johnny joints. You will be able to get all 12" of travel out of a shock. If you decide to 4 link it do it right and use ballistic fab joints Discos are heavy, dont compare your truck to a jeep or a getted yota.

Lucky 8 makes 4.5" coils which are basically 5".. I suggest you figure out whatspring rate you want to run first I think theirs are 170 front and 350 rear. which shocks are you going to run? If you are going to have to fab up mounts for shocks on the axles at that rate might as well do coil overs.

Other things to think about..
drive shafts - going to have to be custom built $$
gear ratios and lockers $$
tires, rims, etc $$
Coilovers or fox/bils/king shocks $$
Cost of DOM and joints $$ (unless he is giving them to you)
I am sure there are plenty of other $$$$ I am missing

When I set out to build my disco I decided I wanted the front articulation to match the rear (not easy) and be able to use the whole 12" travel of the fox shocks. I think you should plan this out and figure out what your end game is before you let your buddy start cutting and welding on your truck.

If I was to do it all over again (which I might at some point) I would have just done a toyota swap. RovingTracks Extreme Duty Land Rover Drivetrain Accessories Or a sals rear (Rover equivilent of a D60) and toy 30 spline front.

But none the less my truck does alright the way it is.. Not that it was cheap to get it there by any means..



Note the rear wheel down travel (thats a 35" tire) - and I have the RTE arms with bushinngs. X-ball joint rear a-arm joint. Picking up an extension soon. Eventually I will link it with orbital joints like the ballistic fab joints but so far this set up has been ****.

Well if this were to happen it would not be in the near future. The conversation didn't get into any details. Basically he told me that he had a set of axles from the Suburban that he pulled his motor out of and he could have them under the truck for less than 1500 including materials. I am aware that this does not include custom D/S, suspension, wheels, tires, gears(already have 4.10s), and lockers. I am also aware that this would be a very pricey project and there is A LOT to consider. It would also render it fairly useless on pavement. Just a idea that he got stuck in my head. It would probably me much more feasible to upgrade the Rover axles, build custom links, lift it more, gear it, cut it up and run 35s.

Better yet I should probably leave the Disco alone and buy his old yoga and replace the motor.

Yes sir it all depends on what your end goal is

Here is the rest of my advice on building your disco

Toyota swaps these days are practically the same cost as running rover stuff because the price of HD CV kits is thru the roof..

Best/cheapest set up for on road AND off road

33", 2" lift, lockers, HD axles/toy swap, 10-12" fox/bils shocks and mounts, cones or retainers, rovertym rear links. This will keep you low, good axle clearance, locked and loaded. I am willing to bet with this set up you will get into places you never thought imaginable.

Maybe start with tires, then suspension, then lockers. Each time getting a feel for how the truck changes and becoming a better off road driver.

My plan originally was 3" lift, 4.10s, and 33s. I was very impressed with the performance on a relatively mild set up. I would like at very least more suspension travel (already have Rte upper and lower rear mounts and disco 2 front towers laying around). I can also get Rancho 9000s for about 35 a piece through work. Might stick with the original plan.

Rancho 9000s were a bit soft for my liking but I think we had this conversation before. The only reason I said 2" is because 3" = drive shaft and castor correction territory. I'm about to lay another $400 out for a rear drive shaft for the 5" lift..

I'm just happy you started a thread more interesting that how "much do I need to trim to fit 32's" Next person who asks is getting this picture. (had to put these on to use tie down straps on moving trailer)..

Man I hope I can fit into the garage at the new place with these aired down to 5PSI..

YOU HAVE TO TRIM THIS MUCH!!! ..
