Gas Smell in Oil, leaky injectors?
I am definitely interested in any improve performance or gas mileage. And it is the 4 pin holes that I am replacing with. Figured that if I'm going to test and clean the injectors to give it a shot for about the same price. I'll report back when I get everything back together.
Thanks for the help.
Thanks for the help.
So I took out the fuel pump (the one replaced recently) to confirm that the check valve is doing it's job and blowing air by mouth and via an air compressor confirms that the check valve is functioning properly.
So at this point, regulator is good, fuel pump check valve is good and there is no leak that I tell, no gas smell any anytime. Again, it will start okay but when I hold the key in position 2 for a few seconds, the car starts much more quickly and definitely smoother. And I do lose fuel pressure when engine rests for some time.

Okay...so i'm going to try and replace the hose from pump to outlet port...when I did the replacement, i used the regular clamps that came with the kit, they are not the fuel injector/high pressure clamps. This came about scouring other threads about the potential of using regular clamps. Not sure that is the problem as it may be letting enough fuel leak to into the tank to cause low pressure and loss of pressure when pump is not running. Crossing my fingers.
Wanted to give an update.
Regarding the fuel pressure issue, I've gone through everything now that I could think of. Tried original pump, replaced fuel line inside the tank, used fuel injection parts all around. At this point, just going to go with it now, car drives fine so not urgent to try and fix it....back of my mind, thinking it may still be the regulator...but that's for another day. On starts now, I just make it a habit to hold key in position 2 for a couple seconds then start the engine and it starts perfectly.
Now for the new reman Bosch injectors....glad to report that I'm happy with the replacement, as others have mentioned in other posts, I can't claim the improvements due to the new 4 nozzle spray pattern...could be just cleaner injectors but here's what I have observed.
1. Idle is much much smoother, engine is much more quiet (I don't understand why but I"ll take it)
2. On cold starts, engine does not rev as high and settles more quickly closer to 700rpm and starting is smoother now as well.
3. Definitely better and smoother acceleration from stop.
4. Highway speed, less noticeable on acceleration but still a slight improvement
5. Mileage, still debatable but after 2 tanks and driving 80/20 highway/city, getting about 16mpg...will see how this holds out over time. Not sure how winter fuel blend impacts mileage right now, time will tell. I have yet had opportunity to make a trip up to the high mountains in Colorado. I'll take it if I get 1-2 mileage improvement at all.
Off the above, the one that stands out the most is how smoother the engine feels and sounds. In my opinion, well worth the upgrade.
