Gear oil - 80/90W synthetic versus 85W/140 for HD use

I think I've dropped my rear Diff oil 4 times in the last month. 5 gallon bucket of coastal for me!. Going to run Mobil1 in the case.

Yeah my concern is expense but I only seem to get water in the diffs sitting in water for 10 minutes not driving through it

So would you say 85w 140 in the diffs and 80w 90 in the t case?

Are there any negative affects to running the thicker oil?

You can feel the resistance in the thicker oil on cold mornings but I don't know if it will hurt anything. I'm going to go back to thinner oil in the case. The guy that set up my rear end suggested dino 80/90 or 85/140. Said not to run synthetic, no clue why but he used to work for Richmond Gear and has been building rear ends for 30 yrs so I take his advice.

I had the Dino 85/140 all around, 15* temps the rover struggled to move, like I said the heavy royal purple in rears and 80/90 in case was a huge difference

Ian you get the locker all fixed?
