So, less than a year and a half ago, I had the last local shop I dealt with replace the driver-side window regulator and motor; both were shot.

Now, the genuine Land Rover motor they replaced it with and charged me the full $350 for appears to be dying. So riddle me this, how did the original genuine motor last 14 years, while the replacement lasted less than 1.5 years?

Did I get fleeced?

In any case, it is supposed to be covered under their 2-year warranty, so we'll see what they say come Thursday when I take it in to be replaced again.

The rest of the windows work great, so it is obvious (to me) that their replacement parts were subpar or perhaps a fluke.

I will report back after the work has been done.

 

That sucks, hopefully they dont give you any crap about the warranty. Those window motors arent cheap so hopefully you dont get hosed. You should ask for the broken parts back so you can see what was put in when it was replaced. A lot of folks *cough* BP *cough* like to say things are "OEM" . What they mean by OEM is oriental equipment manufacturer.

Could have just been a bad motor but quality items rarely fail like that.

 

I doubt they will surrender the bad motor given they probably need to return it for credit, but we'll see. Hopefully it was just a bad part, but I gotta wonder what the odds are.

 

I suppose if they fix it for free its all good, does make you wonder though. You have better luck than me, all of my crap breaks like 10 days past the warranty period.

 

Chris, Rover only warranties their parts for 1 year, not 2.
As for your question, anything can fail, brand new out of the box.

 

This shop warranties parts and labor for 2 years/24k miles, so I am assuming this will be a free repair; it had better be IMO.

I get that things can fail out of the box. Perhaps the modern genuine LR parts are poorly made or this is just a rare bad one.

Also, I am assuming that if all the rest of the windows work perfectly that this would not be an ECU issue, right?

Just preparing myself for "extra" work they may attempt to throw in that I can resolve myself.

Shouldn't be. The regulator (including rollers) and the motor were replaced 14 months ago.

 

You don't get it, you had a failure, go get it fixed and quit grumbeling, things break wether it is a Rover part or a Mercedes, get over it.

 

I think I do. It's in the shop right now. No need to be harsh.
