Not being harsh, you should stand back and read your thread, yes it is a problem, but you would think by listening to your replies that the world has come to an end, it hasn't, you are just a Disco owner that should learn these things happen.

Mike,

Sorry the thread seems that dramatic to you, that wasn't the intent. Not sure where you get that I sound like the world is coming to an end. I was merely venting my frustration at a $350 part that lasted less that 2 years where the original lasted 7x as long; just commiserating with my fellow Disco owners.

Isn't that what this forum is about, all of us telling our individual stories about our experiences with these machines, while helping each other along the way?

If you have read any of my past threads--and I assume you have--you would see that I know very well that things break or need replacing on my Disco. I have replaced (by myself) all 4 rotors, pads, wheel bearings, numerous hydraulic hoses, practically the entire suspension, fixed oil leaks, various little bits here and there that have broken, failed, etc. I have had the head gasket replaced, taken out the failed headliner and painted it, and the list goes on (and will continue, I know).

And it has all played out here on this forum where I (we all do, really) reach out for advice and try to pitch in when others are having trouble or in my blog where I share my love/hate relationship (but mostly love) with my truck.

Best Regards,

- Chris

You put it best with love/hate relationship. We all love our Rovers but that doesn't come without frustration. Kind of like an insanely hot woman. No matter hot she is, someone somewhere is sick of her crap.

We bought ours as I'm sure most did knowing the headaches and irritations that come along with owning one. That being said, constantly having issues with pricey parts that should last far longer is no less annoying. Nobody, Rover owner or not, would accept or be happy about the situation.

I'm assuming Chris is just frustrated with a very pricey part failing twice in less than 2 years. Free fix or not, its probably pretty annoying.

That pretty much sums it up.

Shop said it was definitely the motor as I suspected. Part didn't arrive in time yesterday, so it is supposed to be fixed today.

Just curious, what was actually happening with the window? Was the window not moving at all? Did you hear the motor run? Did the motor go up or down partially? Did it work sporadically? A little more specifics would go a long way towards us helping you.

No worries. After working fine for 14 months straight, the window would go down about 1/2 way while the motor seemed to progressively slow down. Then there would be nothing when I tried to send it back up; after a couple seconds the motor would kick in and laboriously push it back up.

In fact, I probably should have taken this back the day I had the motor and regulator originally replaced since it was slower (about 1/4 speed slower) than all the other windows with original parts. But I thought it was probably something I would just need to live with since it still worked fine, albeit a tad slower. So, likely defective from the beginning. We'll see how the new one works when I get it back this afternoon.

Default Fixed

Truck is back home, and the window motor is replaced and working better than it has since the original died.

Interesting note, the motor was $350 when replaced last year, but this time the cost is listed at $490!

Seems prices have gone up a bit. Ouch.

Nonetheless, job was completed in a reasonable amount of time at no cost to me so I am satisfied.

complete, used from a dismantler like Paul Grant on this site, or others, or you nearby salvage yard (if available), eBay, or serious pocket change for a new one on line.
