Default Good Land Rover and Off Road Reading

Hey guys,

I got bored my current reading material ordered some off-road books. One I thought was really interesting is "The Off-Road 4-wheel Drive book" by Jack Jackson. I think you can buy it cheap off Amazon used.

What I thought was unique about it is that he takes a more international perspective, almost overland-type driving, like what you need to be thinking about before and when making yer way across the Sahara or remote mountains of Pakistan. Much of the information is very trasferable to mountain trail driving that many here might do. The book is not geared towards prepping a vehicle for weekend mud bogging or rock crawling, although a lot of the info could be useful for that. No real prepping info, so don't go looking for that here. But it seemed like every page there was something I never gave a lot of thought about. There are quite a few tips on how to deal with problems that come up in the middle of nowhere to limp to the next place of civilization. The guy particularly likes Series III land rovers so if you like land rovers, it's even more fun to read.

Another book I picked up is: "Land Rover Discovery - 4x4 performance portfolio 1989-2000" Brookland Books. It's a collection of automotive journal reviews from Brittan, Australia, USA. What I liked most about it was getting their contemporary perspective comparing it to other SUV's of the day. Britts are particularly in love with Land Rovers (just like Americans tend to love Jeeps), so they give a pass on a lot of things. But for an enthusiest, it's kind of fun to read. I'd check Amazon used books because sometimes they have books for just a couple bucks.

And of course James Taylor has some Land Rover Discovery books out there too that are interesting to read.

Love to hear about any Land Rover or off-roading books you guys suggest.

Just to preempt it, can we not get into a "Land Rovers are high maintenance vehicles" discussion here. There's enough of that on other threads. Keep it to Off-Road or Land Rover books, plz..

Thanks,

I assume you are not talking about the James Taylor of "Sweet Baby James" fame? Great singer/song writer and it would be cool if he was also a Rover guy.

Ha, ha...

Nope, this is the James Taylor that has drank a picture of L/R Koolaid. But his books contain a lot of fun-to-read historical background on Disco's.
