Here is a comparison of three tires from Cooper the STT, the ST and the ST MAXX.

$1116 Delivered...Included all 5 tires, Lifetime Replacement Warr., and Shipping. If it wasn't for the replacement warranty, I could have save $100 bucks...but, hell....replacement certificate will pay for itself if one does blow.

Once the suspension is done, I am hitting up Prairie City east of Sacramento. It is where the motocross track, Hang Town, is located. They have a nice off road park, which has a nice mud pit....yeah! I will report back......but, at this point, I am waiting.....for the boxes to arrive...

My first choice was the ST MAXX, but I was having a problem finding a set of 5 (at a deal). The MAXX's are awesome tires.

BTW. Cooper manufactures Procomp Tires, which are far more expensive.

The lifetime replacement sounds interesting. Are you changing gearing or anything like that? I saw a lot about that on here.

What other goodies are you putting on it? Lift?

I have a lot of Cooper Dealers here in the Pittsburgh area. And several other brands as well.

I know that a lot of different name tires are actually made by the same manufacturers under different labels as well.

My son worked for NTB for a few years doing tire installations and sold new Fords for a while at a local Dealership. He knows a few local shops that do a lot of "Take-offs", where they swap new tires on a vehicle because the buyer wants something different when they buy their dream truck. These places sell those take-offs pretty cheaply and most have very few miles on them. All sorts of choices abound.

I have very little interest in regearing and just want to get the best bang for the buck. With my Discovery, getting to the off the beaten path is it's primary purpose as I try to enjoy this phase of life.

I like the S/Ts, seems like a good compromise between A/T and mud.

Tires sure have morphed since the early days. Lots of possibilities.

I like the way the sidewalls come into play.

I'd get another set of STT's in a heartbeat (I have a nearly worn out set of the old tread pattern) but they no longer make them in 7.50R16.

Everything I am doing to it will allow me to keep the stock gearing. If I do notice that it is needed, then....well, I have project this summer. Since Jake has been talking about his locker ordeal....I am now looking into changing just the rear, maybe in a few months.

In terms of the goodies, yeah of course a lift. It will be the full Terrafirma set up...brake lines, springs, shocks, stabilizer, radius arms, trailing arms, full bushing kit, steering arms, and most importantly....the new Terrafirma wheels. I might be missing a few things, but you get the ideal....by the time I am done, it will look like the TF D2 they have on display.
