Default Got a few lift kit questions...

Im looking to get a small (2-3 in) lift kit sometime this summer for the disco. The main reason I am considering one is because the old springs are starting to sag a little and I want to fit some bigger tires on it. I do know a bit about lifts, but have a few questions about it...

1. Could I get away with just replacing the springs with lift kit ones or do I need to replace the shock absorbers as well?

2. Do I need to change my front drive shaft with a D2 one? It has U-joints in the front, not a rotoflex

3. Any other things I need to consider before I purchase any parts?

Terrafirma 2" lift - MD duty if your truck isnt going to have bumpers, sliders or armor

Have you ever replaced the shocks? If not I'd do it now. It's an injustice to all of your hard work to skimp out and not get new shocks..

Just has the whole kits for around $550 IIRC

just had mine done a few months back. 2" Terrafirma shocks and springs. I figured that if I was going to have then taken off might as well do both. Noticed a big difference in the ride. I changed my drive shaft as soon as I got my disco with ones that you can grease. If you have them already keep them.

The shocks are bone stock. The whole truck is bone stock. I remember hearing from my cousin (another LR guy) that the stock springs would work with a small lift. I really dont plan to do any off roading yet, so could I get by with the stock ones? Save up some money later for a long travel set.

I would at least do the front shocks as you would have to dissasemble the whole shock tower dealy again if you did them later. The rears are no big deal.

If you wanted you could just get all springs and just the front pair of shocks, then get the rears later. It would be a little cheaper than the kit, but would end up being more expensive when you decided to get the rears.

Like RGV97 said, the ride will change alot. I got ome HD springs with the cheap TF shocks. Went from handling like a 70s caddilac to a solid BMW-ish feel.

Why not just save your money and buy Fox or Bilstein shocks and RTE 3" then? YES you can get away with stock shocks on a 2" lift but they may top out when you hit bumps and they rebound.

How much travel do you need in the flatlands of Iowa?? I'm not knockin - I am from Burlington originally.

the stock shocks will work with a 2" lift....I left my shocks alone when I installed the terrafirma
med springs, that was a while ago and now I'm thinking the shocks are getting beat, but not related to the lift.

With the 3" lift don't you need to change drive train components more than if you did a regular 2" lift? And which fox shocks do you use?

Haha! Funny you ask. The reason why I have not done any off roading yet is because I have not found any trails! I have gone down some super muddy gravel roads (level B roads), but they aren't rough enough.

You'll likely need a double cardan front drive shaft.

I have these

Rear:
Lucky8 Llc. - Take the road less traveled...

Front:
Lucky8 Llc. - Take the road less traveled...
