I am new to Land Rovers and am slowly fixing up a salvage '96 Disco. I have a couple of windows that won't roll down and took apart a rear door to "fix" a window yesterday since I have a new window regulator and motor for it. I never expected to find this... I am gutted! And so is the door!!!
Keeps the window closed anyhow....problem could be a regulator, window rail, track, wiring, switch, front seat switch, or solder joints in computer. My drivers side rear seat window has shims keeping the window shut. been that way since I got it. after 7 years, still haven't got around to checking it out. I never sit back there.
Pretty sure the problem was the wood. Who puts a 2x4 into a car door? There are so many alternatives to propping up a window on a wood post. Why not just leave the old parts in the door and tape the window shut? There is no regulator, no motor, no hardware, no lock button or link, looks like the glass is still sitting in a rail so at least I don't have to source that.
Sorry for the surprise. Land Rovers are sometimes mysterious and challenging, but usually give in to persistent persuasion. Roverguy.com is a good place to find miscellaneous used parts that are otherwise hard to find new, otherwise the local junk yard.
Thanks for the tip on parts. The Disco I am working on was supposed to be a "parts" car, turns out it is in better condition mechanically and electronically then the one I had.
bndgrl, welcome to the board. Glad to see you are attempting to keep a Disco on the road.
Nearly any manual you would need can be found in the google drive linked in my signature. Download whatever you need. Its not a bad idea to keep a copy in the cloud somewhere (or bookmark the link)
I used a block of wood in my son's CR-V last summer because the regulator had failed in the window would simply drop into the door. We were selling it in a couple weeks anyway, and I fully disclosed what I had done. But I'm highly confident that's why there's wood in the door of your Discovery.
