Hannibal or SD?
I've got a line on one of each at about the same price but i'm not sure which way i want to go. I like the flat floor of the hannibal but in the same breath I dont like how it sits higher in the front than the back. I like how the SD rack fits the curves of the roof on the disco but the overall quality of the SD rack seems to leave a bit to be desired. I guess another plus in the hannibal's favour is that it's lighter since its aluminium vs the SD which is steel.. Opinions?
I will say my SD rack is like an external roll cage on top of mine (see the video for rovers on the rocks you can see me using my truck leaning against a treeon a real off camber area)You would be amazed how well the SD racks hold up during a roll over. As far as weight I dont know the specs but I'd say its close to the Hannibal. If I were to actually use my rack to haul anything I personally would go with the flat Hannibal, the curves make it a real pain to place anything large.
The SD is pretty nice. I never really hauled anything major. If I did, it wold be do go hunting / camping anyway and it wold be a collection of small items. I doubt it would matter.
I have no idea how much it weighs. It cannot be all that bad as I have taken it off and re mounted it several times by myself.

like brian said the SD is almost like a soft roll cage for light rubbing along the roof. with that said i have the garvin rack and i freakin love it. i could sleep up there, store crap up there do whatever i please. right now i have my hi-lift mounted up there but could easily store 6 50 gal cases of crap. that flat with chicken coop flooring is the way to go.
What are you going to use the rack for? Are you looking at the link on the LRRF for the racks, if so, contact him and ask him about the weight.
I believe the Hannibal will handle more load carring weight and yes the SD is more stylish.
Let us know what you buy.

Mike, i was thinking about the Hannibal that John has listed. Im going over on friday to horse trade some parts so was thinking about picking it up. I'd be using the rack to carry gear when we travel as with two kids and two dogs that eats up all off the internal cargo space in the truck.
I also found a 6 month old baja rack for a pretty good deal locally. I think the baja / sd racks are about on par as far as style goes so its a wash there.. Baja has a built in faring on the front other than that i rate them about the same..
Baja lists theirs as 100lb with a capacity of 600lb. Hannibal lists theirs at 87lbs with no given load capacity (there's a blurb on Hannibal's site about the racks being tested to support over a ton of weight or something along those lines)

If you were to try to put a ton on the top, you would have a serious change in the handling characteristics. I would not want to drive one with anywhere near those kind of weights on top of it.

I ended up picking up the Baja Rack off of craigslist. I guess there are three versions of this rack.
- The first version sat very low to the roof line, but you needed to remove the stock roof rails.
- The second version was taller and you didnt need to remove the roof rails. This is the version I picked up
- The third version is the rack they currently sell and has a cutout on the right and left to allow the rack to sit lower to the roof line and clear the bars but still allow use of the sunroof.
The rack is immaculate, powder coat is all in good shape..
