Default Hard Starting (After Turn-Over)

Since I got my LR3, the D1 has been rather neglected - I start and drive it once or twice a week. For those of you who haven't followed my saga, I know that the car needs new crank bearings. I've been keeping the oil topped up as high as the dipstick will allow since I got the car, but it burns oil - separate issue. Well over the Christmas holiday I went away and the car sat for about 10 days. The first time I started it up upon getting back, it was real mad. Was knocking all to hell and back and oil pressure light stayed on for probably 10-15 seconds. It finally settled down and I took it for a lap - did fine. Topped up my oil again and it has sat for about four days now. Today I went out to start it and it really struggled. It turned right over for me like always, but it started super rough and the RPM immediately plummeted to maybe 250 and stayed there for probably 2-3 seconds before it came back up, sounded awful. It was long enough I was actually reaching for the key to kill it when it sprang back up. Drove it to work and it did fine. My question is - what was that? I have been on the fence about selling this car since I got the LR3, and I think it could fetch a pretty high price if it weren't for this one issue. Is this just a symptom of it being an old engine?

Cheers

I have this exact symptom after a warm restart. Mine is a daily driver with 124k.
If I try to rev out of it, it gets worse - like it has to sort it out itself.
