$100 bucks or less for parts/fluids and whatever the machine shop charges to skin the heads true which around here is about $100 for both. Two head gaskets, valley pan with end seals, new head bolt set, rocker box seals (not required but you'll thank yourself for replacing), antifreeze and you'll want to do an oil change when done. You can't get much cheaper and once you get the heads back from the machine shop it would take less than a relaxed weekend. Really don't need any special tools other than a superbly made 1/2" breaker bar to loosen/tighten head bolts. Sorry but my estimate is from a liberal, conservatives are blind, white and tight asses.

that last line though...🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 what are “valley pan with end seals”, and “ rocket box seals”? These are new terms to me. I should already have everything else in tools. I’d probably include the radiator, fan clutch, hoses, water pump etc in the restoration too. So a couple of weekends of wrenching for this “bible thumping, tight *** conservative “ 🤣🤣🤣🤣

that set is way affordable. What about the rocker box bolts? Replace those? What type of wrench is that? Also the bolts on my D1 exhaust manifold have a funny head. Got any idea what those are? I’ll probably replace those also.
I grabbed the Fel-Pro head gasket set off Amazon (HS26436PT). $136
it had more than I needed but meh.

Can't even remember what I spent on chemicals and lubes.
Funny heads are just 12 point (exhaust manifolds & valve covers).
ihscouts ain't kidding about the breaker bar. I busted a good 5/8" socket on a head bolt (six point) so you might want a spare or three.

I paid $84 for the headgasket kit, with bolts, from Lucky8.
My machine shop charged me $180 to surface the heads and fix 10 or so stripped out exhaust holes.
I bought a 5 gallon thing of Purple Power for $21 from advance that I soaked my greasy parts in.
I replaced all of the coolant hoses, and every gasket from the headgaskets up.
Plus painting parts ,etc.
So id say estimate around $300 for parts, machining, and fluids on the high end.
It can certainly be done cheaper.

dang busting a socket would be bad. So the bolt is a 12 pt? Seems odd . Also are the exhaust manifold bolts 12pt also?

Thanks, the rest of the engine bay is getting cleaned up now that I can drive the car and back it out of my garage.
