Default heat only stays hot for a min

so when i turn my heat on, after the car is all warmed up, it stays hot for about a min and then gradually becomes just cool (not air cond temp and not hot just room tempish). anyone know what the problem is?

this is shot in the dark but when i first got the truck the coolant level was only just enough to cool the engine but not get to the heater core. at least thats what i figured cuz once i topped the reservoir off the heat started working again.

Could be air in your heater core. Does it get hot again when you rev the engine?

My vote is for air in the heater core or low coolant. Or both.

So, now what are you doing to find your vacuum leak? if you don't find and fix it, you will over heat your engine.
