Default Hello!

Hi all,

Im a new Disco 1 owner; and until very recently a SIII owner. Traded the SIII for a '95 Disco and couldnt be happier. I've been rummaging through the forum, looking for answers- i don't know jack about a Disco....

Anyway, im looking forward to learning more about my new truck and keeping her ticking!

Welcome!

I'd cover the obvious stuff first...
Change all fluids... oil, coolant, transmission, diff oil, xfer case oil.
Grease the drive shafts.
Change the plugs and wires (8mm and cheap copper plugs)

...then wait for something to break or manifest itself is some way.

If you have specific concerns, fire away.

Nice rig - Welcome - hit the rust with POR-15 (follow the direction to the letter!).
theres lots of threads about common rust area's
if rust is really bad, panels are available from various places in the UK

Default Traded a Series III for a D1???? Are you mad?

Yes. Yes I am. But seriously, my 1980 SIII 88 Diesel was in great shape except for the diesel engine, Went to a mechanic a few years ago while i was deployed and it never ran right again, if at all. Turns out, the fellas ground the crank, but installed std bearing, so i had .020 slop. Timing was never right. I got white smoke and black smoke nearly at the same time....

So i finally decided to sell it when this guy offed me the Disco. As a former Series owner, i was kind of a snob and turned my nose up. Until i drove it. Even swap- even with all the cool stuff like Fairey overdrive and superwinch capstan winch and tons of new stuff.

But, i am now very happy and driving my LR instead of looking at it all the time (except for the fuel consumption).

The selling point- not a speck of rust inside, outside or underneath except on the bull bar and rear ladder. under the back carpet, the pan looks brand new and not even surface rust in the wheel wells. It does have a small oil leak; i guess that term is relative, right? But it's not enough to keep me from parking in the drive. New motor (20,000 miles), new cooling system, new steering linkage, new tyres. I've just adjusted the door handles that didn't want to open.

My daughter, 11, was adamant that i not sell the Series, but even she is happy after taking a few rides in the Disco. All is well!

So, if you're at FT Leavenworth and you see a conniston green Disco, give me a wave!

Cool, I trimmed the from bumper(plastic). Looks better, I’m sure you’d like it also.

Sam95Disco, how hard was it to get it all off. I've been thinking about doing just the same. You have any photos? what did you paint it with? Im thinking bed liner, but would like to hear your ideas.
