Default Help...

I have been stalling at random, sometimes it will pop back to life and other times it just dies. so I am parking it till I figure this out. I took it to the mechanic this morning and he said try unplugging the MAS. I did, and it still stalls. Not sure what other info to give? sometimes it has done it at speed, feels like the engine shuts off and then comes back on. I went and had it checked to see if it was reading any codes and it wasn't. She has also started smoking a bit. other than a valve lifter tick that I have not been able to shake no matter how much cleaning I do, she runs smooth and quiet.

I am willing to bet that my next option is the fuel pump. does this sound about right? I have fuel pressure... would it just flicker like that if the pump is dying or is there some kind of fuel pressure regulator that will be a simple cure all.

98 Dissco 4.0 162000kms.

Give us so more information, when does this happen, what type of smoke, from where and what does it smell like, are you having to add coolant, when was it last tuned along with plug wires and what octane gas are you running?

Default more info.

Give us so more information, when does this happen, "this" being stalling is random, completely intermittent. going to wiggle the key next time it happens, and checking the distributor this morning.
what type of smoke, white smoke,
from where and what does it smell like, from the exhaust. smells like gas. sometimes smokes sometimes doesn't,
are you having to add coolant, will check my fluid levels today, but I am pretty sure no. there was no coolant in my last oil change.
when was it last tuned along with plug wires and what octane gas are you running? Will be getting a tune up on Tuesday, plug wires are actually ancient, almost look like they have been there for a long time... I am running premium.

How do I "tune up" my truck... what is involved in this. I can understand distributor cap and wires, spark plugs etc... what else needs to be done that I can do?

A "tune up" consists of new plugs and wires, new cap and rotor.

I don't have a cap, I have coils....

changed the wires, trying to change the fuel filter, where is it?

contemplating head gasket repair, might have slipped a cylinder... this is gonna be interesting. She has not overheated but I checked the coolant and it is lower than it was last week. bugger.

Fuel filter is on the right rear frame rail behind the tire.

Change the fuel filter and put new wires on if the others look ancient. The cap he is talking about is the Rotor Cap, where the wires come out of the top of the distributor. He did not mean a capacitor, of course you have a coil. we all have a coil of one type or another. And if you got a rotor, the rotor has a cap, like a hat on it's head.
