Help before I drive this thing off a cliff

Thanks for the help. Turns out my husband did clean the stepper motor. So I have to take it to a dealer to reset engine. Which leads me to a whole new problem. I live in Wisconsin. There are 2, maybe 3 LR dealers. The closest one doesn't work on series 1 land rovers. The next one is in the Milwaukee area. 3 hours away. I don't think it works on them either.

Thank you Tom, that makes sense in a sense - the reason for the dirt, not the design which puts it right there.

It doesn't HAVE to be a dealer, just someone with a TestBook and the knowledge on how to reset the adaptive values. Those are the two things you should ask anyone before you waste your time going there. If they sound confused run the other way.
There was(maybe still is, IDK) an indy Rover shop in Madison, WI called Mad City Rovers; Clint Paul was the guy's name I think. Not sure he has the TestBook or the knowledge to reset adaptive values but it may be worth looking into as another option.

Plus be sure those hoses on the valve covers are good, a vacuum leak will also cause high idle
One of the hardest things on these is finding a place with the computer reset ability
I drove several hours to get mine reset
Be sure no one drills the plug on the plenum and tries turning that screw you will be buying a plenum

See, I daren't drive mine any further than maybe an hours drive. And I don't have a clue who would have the T4 diagnostic tool needed around here.

Mounted on front of plenum by where the big intake hose hooks on, has 2 / 5.5 mm bolts and 4 wire plug?
Unplug remove clean it and the port do not turn on with it out
If it falls apart you need a new one, but you usually will need the ecm reset by a rover shop,only rover shops with special scanner can reset idle if you need that done dealer is hit or miss, you will need an independent
