Help! Disco died while driving now won't start
I had a similar issue this evening with my 96' Disco 4.0 which I've had for only a few weeks. My wife and I were leaving a restaurant and she was a ahead of me a bit but looked like she was pulling over. I pulled beside her on a slight incline and she said the vehicle had stalled. She was able to start it but as soon as it was in Drive, it sputtered and stopped. We were able to start it a few more times and get a few feet each time. I noticed sometimes just at idle/Park and about every time in Drive there was a clicking noise from underneath the dash on about the middle or passenger side. I had an old 91 Mazda Protege that had a bad ECC and had clicking noise like that so I suspected a short in the ECU/ECM. I have also noticed after a few weeks of driving that we would smelled a strong fuel smell occasionally. Does this situation sound like the fuel pump/inertia switch issue?
Here is the ProLine fuel Pump Assembly for the Pre-AEL Disco I early 97 and earlier:

A note to the other NEW Disco I owner: have you replaced your Fuel Filter located in the rear passenger wheel well area?
Also the DI fuel pumps tend to split and leak at the point where the fuel lines enter the top of the pump assembly. If you are smelling fuel you have a leak somewhere most likely. Remove the rear cargo space pad and get down to the metal floor pan. There is a plate in the middle of the floorpan. Remove it to get to your fuel pump and see what condition it is in. Also take a look at the fuel lines underneath.
If your fuel pump top looks like this, you need a new fuel pump assembly like above.

Thanks for the tip. I did find a crack in the mini inlet manifold but nothing like the photo you posted. I suspect this is original equipment maybe and the fuel guage wasn't working well any way so I'm calling Rovers North tomorrow to get next-day air on the Proline PFL132 unit you suggested. The parts houses where I live only sell the LR branded part for $240 and have to order anyways. Will keep you all updated.

Always glad to help
ModernHomesteader, I see your location is North Georgia, I was born and raised in Griffin Ga. Co-opted at Lockheed in Marietta Ga many many years ago while going to class occasionally at Ga Tech (North Avenue Trade School).
Lots of nice hills in North Georgia. Enjoy your Rover.

And it's in the shop again, doing the exact same thing now the shop says it has to be the multi function relay. I guess I'm going to have to buy a relay, is there anywhere to get them cheaper than British Atlantic? They had then for 99 bucks and we don't have and salvage yards here thy would have a land rover.
I installed the Proline PFL132 and it appears to work well. I do recommend coming out of pocket for the extra few buck for new ferruls (Olives) and brass union bolts. Here was my tally:
Proline Fuel Pump: PFL132 (99.50)
2 Olives : RNF136 (1.79 each)
2 Union Nuts: RNF140 (2.88 each)
On to the fuel filter now. I plan to keep working through the fuel path until I replace just about everything on this 189K+ machine.
