Default Help, Help, Help

I am working on my ignition, and I am at the step to take out the saftey rivet. It was drilling out nicely and then it started turning the hole. There is not enough room or leverage to pull it out. My pin was obviously already tampered with. The pin looks like trickymonks in his picture. I have no clue how to pull it out now. I have tried everything, further drilling leads to spinning of the pin.

Reason I am doing it is my key keeps getting stuck and will not come out. Help

turn the entire assembly over and tap it on the table. It might just fall out. I went through this w/ mine last weekend. Could also attempt to get a sharp chisel behind it. You really can't 'break' anything but I'd work gently all the same.

Also, when you have it turned over, gently push in on the ignition. Right where the key would enter. There is a spring deep inside that pushes the barrel outward which also serves to crimp the bottom of the pin.

And be VERY careful when pulling the barrel out of the cylinder. Those little brass tabs need to be in the proper position and they fall out quite easily.

I'd also do this on/in a cookie sheet because those little springs tend to wander off.

Use a pick if it doesn't fall out. Why drilling it in the first place?

I was following the sticky, it said to drill out. I ended up getting it, but I need a locked smith to redo the tumblers, some are bent and out of whack. For now I just elected to jerry rig it.

Right. You can straighten the tumblers out yourself. How's the tumbler's bore, is it smooth or do you see gouging? That is what will cause all of your work to come to naught. When you take it to the locksmith take the bore casing too and see if they can fix the bore. That is what will catch the key and bends the tumblers. It's tough to fix these as they are so worn by the time we take them apart, they are usually too far gone to repair. Some folks have installed alternatives but that depends on how original you wish to keep your truck.......

Default Fubar

I think either the barrel is worn out or the key is not cut properly. Either way when I tried to fix, unbend, grind, replaces all the little springs properly when I put everything back together it somehow was more messed up. The key was locked in place and would not even move. I think it is FUBAR! So time for a locksmith, but even that quote was over $130. I think for an off road vehicle I can live with a jerry rig. I am just using the ignition switch right now mounted under the steering wheel. I will make sure not to give anyone my address
