Default Help me sort out my Half-breed Disco I

I'm trying to figure out what I've got here so I can order the right parts.

I bought my '96 from a guy who said that a 4.0 Range Rover engine had replaced the original engine. He insisted that this was a more powerful engine. It appears to me that Discos already had 4.0 engines so I'm unsure what he's talking about. (And neither did he - a PO had the work done)

So...I need o2 sensors and it starts me wondering if I ordered the right ones. Can these two engines be that different? It is a GEMS engine.

thanks

They're identical, no difference. No more power either, sorry. Order away.

EDIT: I've since been told that the DI and RRC engines are not identical

Thanks for confirming that, ihscout. The good thing about then engine is that it only has about 75K on it. Which arguably would be 'more powerful' that a 165K engine...

Here's the second question: the Disco has a "2 inch body lift and 3 inch Defender suspension" By "Defender suspension" does that mean bigger springs, or would that include leafs and other components?

Yeesh......

Defenders use coil springs that are the exact same as Disco's and Range Rover Classics and AFAIK they are the same wire dimension for all three. Many parts are interchangeable between all three. Evidently the PO was full of himself......

You won't see leafs on Rovers until you go back to the Series trucks.

As far as more power because it has less miles is crap too. A well cared for vehicle is less likely to loose power across the board when compared to one with less care. Mileage is not a good indicator of condition, not one I trust anyways.

Okay, thanks again. Actually a relief I don't have to try and mix and match parts.

I knew the OP didn't know much about the truck. But it is pretty well maintained - starts strong and purrs at an idle.

Dang, that's 2 D1's today that I'd been looking at that ended up bought by people on this forum! This is the one passed between a couple of the family kids right...has later D2 headlamps?

Not sure about the suspension but it looked "lifted" in the pics that had been on craigslist.

Curious....did you pay much less than asking? It had been listed for a little while there.

Cheers.

Yes - same truck. It was mechanic owned for most it's life. Then the boys rode it hard, but Dad had the cash to keep it running. I think I got a pretty good deal. It needs a lot of love, but it's not too bad. It's pretty 'tall' - I like the D2 lights.

Weird question, but can you take a closer picture of those D2 headlights? I am about to swap some D2 headlights onto my D1, and have no idea if they will fit right on, or some work needs to be done. Thanks!

Not a weird question at all. I know nothing about putting them in. They look great, but may not be super tight in there.

Hope these help:
