Question Help! My hub is still leaking!

I have a Disco 2003. My mechanic told me that I needed to replace the axle seal, so I bought a new wheel hub and o-ring. I printed off the instructions and specs for torque. I pulled the old one and put on the new one, following all of the specifics about torque and where to apply loctite. It was fine for about 50 miles, but now it's got a slow leak of gear oil, all over again.

I lubed the o-ring before I installed the new part to ensure that it wouldn't slip. I bent the hub nut down to lock it in place, and put loctite on the four hub bolts and the lock nut. The next thing I'm going to try is the air vent, although I checked it today and it appeared clear. I can't think of anything else to troubleshoot. Any recommendations?

Okay, so I blew out my vent tube; it's clear and it smells faintly of gear oil which tells me that air is getting in and out of the axle shaft, so what's next?

The Disco II is quite different from the Disco I as far as the wheel hubs, I don't know about the axle bearing and seals, but you should ask on the Discovery II section instead of the Discovery I section.

Also download the zipped RAVE file and you will have a complete set of documentation to help you with your vehicle.

Good Luck.
