Default Hi-lift

Was lookingd into getting one and the roverparts.com site reads i'll need jack points (at $100 a piece) to use on Discovery. Checked the hi-lift site and some others that sell their product to see if I could get jack points cheaper and there was no mention of them. So is this a must or what?

Unless you have aftermarket bumpers and sliders, there are no solid lift points to use the hi-lift to try and jack up your truck; you will only bend stuff. Hi-lift does sell a bumper adapter as well as a wheel adapter where you attach it to the openings in your wheels and then use the jack to lift up that side, useless if you have to take off that wheel and have nothing to put under the axle to hold it up. Also, keep in mind the dangers of using the hi-lift without the proper lift points as well.

You can get a good bottle jack or a floor jack. Get a heavy duty one that will lift a lot.

You can stick the jack into the receiver on the trailer hitch and lift that way, but that does you now good if you need to lift the front.

Any reason not to jack on the front bumper if you have just the metal part? I've done that a couple of times, and thought nothing of it. But if it's not built for it I guess I'll just need a better bumper.

Because there is no jack point you run the risk of the truck sliding off of the jack and killing someone.

True. But even with a jack point it can tip. I've heard it called a dead-man's jack before, which seems fitting. I only use it as a last resort anyway.

Carried one.. Had to winch myself out with it in the middle of a swamp in the middle of the night... Fun pitch black swamp

I got the 60" one and the winch kit to go with it. I have sliders for jacking.
