Default How many O2 sensors should a 1994 Land Rover Discovery 3.9L V8 have?

Hi all,

I recently bought a dilapidated 1994 Land Rover Discovery 3.9L V8i in the US, and it came with the catalytic converter portions of the Y-pipe stolen.

I think I've found the wiring for the O2 sensors on either side of the engine (red, black, and white wires, appear to have been cut on both sides), and I think there are only supposed to be 2 O2 sensors on my Disco, both pre-cat, but I've seen some conflicting info online about it (like here where it says there should be none: https://www.lrukforums.com/threads/3...overy-1.89015/), and so I wanted to ask the community.

How many Oxygen sensors do I need on my US-spec 94 Land Rover Discover V8i? And which ones should I get? Can I get cheapies or should I spring for Bosch or similar ones?

Two sensors, one on each side. NTK or Walker are popular. It is not so easy to monitor the O2 sensors since it is Pre-OBD, although there are ways written up on the forum. Don't get cheapies anyway.

Ok great, thank you for the info.

Would you be able to tell me what the wires that the O2 sensors connect to are supposed to look like? Is it 3 wires for each, one white, one red, one black? The O2 sensors I'm seeing online have 4 wires, but the wiring that's left behind on my car seems to just be those 3 wires.

Oh I think I found the right part here: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...&pt=5132&jsn=8

I had been looking at a part that was mislabeled on eBay as being for a 94 but I think it probably only belongs on post-OBDII vehicles.

I think I'm all set. Thanks again for your help!

check out the google drive in my signature. You'll look in the D1 section. There are actually two versions of the Electrical Troubleshooting manual for 1995 model year in that drive. That will cover your 1994 model.

Download any/all of them and use them as you wish.
