In reality, most people don't need a lift at all if the rest of the truck is right and your current suspension is not sagging.

If you got a Disco I still riding on the original springs, you are most likely sagging severely. Then installing a 2 or 3 inch lift is a pretty good fix.

The profile of the tires will also have an effect as Tom pointed out. A lot of people go to a lot of expense to achieve a "look" instead of assessing what they really need.

As with most mods, it is a matter of opinion. For me, for a daily driver 2" is the most, and then with that lift the biggest tire that would fit. To me the tires are more important than the lift. The next thing to me is a good winch, plenty of ropes and a high lift jack. With that I would tackle anything the higly modified guys tackle. It takes me longer, but I get there too and with less damage.

I agree with Leadfoot. Lift alone won't beat the right tires, winch, high lift and technique. Plus a really extreme lift will give you new problems.

I can tell you from experiance that I would never go over 3" on a daily driver. Ive had more drivetrain an drivability problems once I got over the 3" mark. You can run up to 3" with minimal driveline issues you get over that your looking at new driveshafts, cranked radius an trailing arms, offset swival *****, etc.... Its a mess!!! But mines a daily driver that only sees about 1000 miles of pavement a year so its all in what you want to do with it.

I will agree. I am doing the TF 2". I repacked my bearings yesterday and with my tires, BF Goodrich MT KM2 245/75 16 I found I had slight rub on the trailing arms but that was it. And that was on stock suspension. I would bet that disappears with the lift. I also bought the Trail Gear sliders for $140 to my door, going to order the gussets and a guy in my 4x4 club as a fabber getting them welded right to the frame.

Let's see 1000 divided by 365 =<3 miles per day total.

Not much strain on it.

Okay. How much tire can you fit under a disco with no lift? 1" lift? and 2" lift? That is the largest tire with NO rubbing under full flex. I currently have sagging springs, so a lift is in the works. I just need more info before deciding what height to go with. But if putting a 2 inch lift on with a 2 inch taller tire would make it too top heavy, then I may have to do the 1 inch lift with 1 inch taller tires. I know all this info for Jeeps, but this is the first I've ever been around the suspension on a Disco.
